This year, for the first time, the festival hosts a small tribute to the sounds of Balkan Jazz with guests Fanfara Tirana in Albania and the Trio Martha Mavroidis, Pantelis Stoikou & Trio Balcano GoJam Group and our country, while not Missing from the program, the only Big Band City of Athens. This is the organization of cultural events with a small entrance fee amount of recyclable materials. The intention is to highlight the fact that in times of economic crisis the first casualty is culture. Quite simply, people do not have money for theater, music, cinema, art exhibitions and more generally for the Arts and Culture. Incidentally will perform compositions from their first personal album “oistrilasia” and later organic compositions, along with a selected repertoire of adaptations, which cover a wide musical spectrum from jazz standards, traditional tunes and compositions by contemporary artists with strong improvisational disposal. The exhibition presents the work of ten artists who re-examine traditional handicraft techniques and integrate into a modern context. Through the manual aspect of the project / work participants and the use of different materials formed a conceptual field that interprets the particular world of weaving and tissues. .:: Melita Couta Exhibition ::.
The Cyprian artist Melita Couta presents her first solo exhibition in Athens at a.antonopoulou.art gallery on Wednesday, May 18th. In her new she proposes a series of topographical surveys of unknown lands and cities, mixing perfectly penciled lines, controlled ink blotches, subtle collages and superimpositions of translucent papers in a universe strictly confined to white, black and greyscale. Painting usually is considered as an art of color. Here, though, the paintings use only the most basic colors, black and white, to create an impression. Mostly nudes, representations of the human body and nature are depicted in sketches, engravings and other ways of painting. Location: Frissiras Museum Address: 3 & 7 Monis Asteriou st.

Bringing together for the first time, work by the internationally renowned artists who have lived and worked in Greece during the 20th century, ‘The Last Grand Tour’ looks at Greece as a site of inspiration over the past 60 years, reflecting the various ways in which the country, its long cultural history and geographic characteristics have continued to be a source for artistic innovation. .:: Myth and Coinage ::.
One hundred and thirty-five coins, twenty-two medals and fifteen banknotes from the Numismatic Museum collections will be on display. Moreover, on temporary loan, ancient Greek coins from the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection, fourteen works-of-art from the National Archaeological Museum collections and two paintings from the National Gallery, will be also presented. .:: National Archaeological Museum ::.
The National Archaeological Museum is the biggest museum of Athens and one of the most important in the world. It is situated in a majestic neoclassical building created by L. Lange and Ziller in the 19th century. The exhibits cover a large chronological and geographical span offering sample from many different periods and places of Greece.
