”Athens. The spirit of ’60: A capital city is transforming”

ba7d1d9ccf07ca1e6de710adb3947ff3

If you are in Athens during November and until the first days of December, you will have the chance to see not only the modern aspects of the city but the city’s transformation form the 1960’s. The Hellenic American Union  alongside  the Hellenic American collage and in partnership with the Hellenic American University (Manchester, NH, USA) have organized a photographic display called ”Athens. The spirit of ’60: A capital city is transforming” curated by the journalist and writer Nikos Vatopoulos. In the display you will see  a series of photographs, originated from private collections and magazines, that depict the changes that happened in order for Athens to become the modern city that is today. Great emphasis is given to the economic and social changes, the new buildings and the new way of life in the growing city.

The display opens at November 3rd at 20.30 in Kennedy gallery at the Hellenic American Union ( Massalias 22, Kolonaki) until December 13th.

 3rd Athens Biennale 2011 MONODROME

The 3rd Athens Biennale 2011 is a double project in the form of an international exhibition and a feature film. MONODROME revolves around an unlikely encounter: The Little Prince meets Walter Benjamin. This intentionally peculiar coupling of the two figures acts as the ground onto which the ongoing worldwide sociopolitical and financial upheaval will be examined, through a narrative that will address humanity in a universal and poetic manner. Athens, and Greece for that matter, has been the epicenter of a social and economical earthquake whose consequences are becoming stronger: How could one reflect on this situation which seems to exhibit characteristics that make it global rather than national or local in nature? Is what has been rather facilely referred to as the “Greek example” a significant turning point in history..? More details @ www.athensbiennial.com.

Until 11th of December @ Theatre Square / Diplareios School / Eleftherias Park / ARTS CENTRE / El. Venizelos Museum.
